You understand a lot of what people say to you, but you don’t dare to answer in Dutch because you’re unsure of your language skills.
Your Afrikaans confuses you when you try to speak Dutch. You wonder if what you’re saying is correct Dutch. People often switch to English when you try to speak Dutch. This makes you think, “See, I can’t do it. People don’t understand me.”
In this course, I’ll teach you how to use Dutch and how you can use your knowledge of Afrikaans to quickly start speaking the language.
You’ll learn Dutch alternatives for commonly used African words.
We will focus on the Dutch grammar so you can construct correct sentences.
And there’s plenty of opportunity to practice your speaking skills, since we work in small groups.

How it works
- Twice a week, you have a 60-minute online lesson.
- During this time, you will learn grammar, practice your listening and speaking skills.
- I guide you through the process and offer learning strategies and mindset tips.
- At home, you work approximately 4 hours a week on learning vocabulary, doing exercises, and improving your listening and writing skills.
- You will meet motivated people to learn with you.
- You will learn new strategies and inspire each other.
- Additional materials are included if you need more exercises or more practice.
- Classes with a teacher with 7 years of experience teaching Dutch to South Africans.
- If you can’t attend, the class will be recorded for you.

- In 30 hours from A0 to A2 level
- Online class every Tuesday and Thursday from 17.00 until 18.00 hours

- We use Microsoft Teams
- You need the book Nederlands in gang.
- €690,- per person. It is possible to pay in 4 installments of €175,-
- Maximum 6 people in a group.
What you will learn
Basic grammar and vocabulary: The fundamentals of the Dutch language, such as sentence structure, verbs, and commonly used words.
Communication skills: How to conduct simple conversations in everyday situations (e.g., introducing yourself, shopping, making appointments).
Listening and reading skills: Understanding short texts and spoken Dutch in context.
Cultural context: Introduction to Dutch customs and traditions to better understand the language in practice.

You can have simple conversations in your daily life.
You can use Dutch during small talk with colleagues, when you do your groceries, or when you go to a bar or restaurant.
Dutch people won’t switch to English when you have a conversation with them.
You will feel more at home, because you understand the culture and the people better.

My name is Elizabeth Bergsma, and I am the owner of Talk Dutch 2.
For the past seven years, I have been teaching Dutch language classes to immigrants.
I teach many online classes to groups at various levels. I specialize in teaching South Africans.
Before I started teaching NT2, I worked in elementary education for over 10 years.
I have a passion for teaching and sharing knowledge.
I enjoy seeing others grow and find it a challenge to tailor my lessons to your learning strategies.
